Many economic and business decisions are based on economic information in the form of time series. When analyzing the time series, it is a very common practice to identify and remove seasonal patterns to make the series easier to interpret. It is important for anyone involved with seasonally adjusted series to recognize and understand the various movements present in time series and to understand the various components of a time series (such as the trend) that are estimated during seasonal adjustment.
One of the benefits of using X-13ARIMA-SEATS for seasonal adjustment is the diagnostics available; therefore, many of the courses have discussions of seasonal adjustment diagnostics, including spectrum graphs. X-13ARIMA-SEATS and TRAMO/SEATS use regARIMA models for preadjustment of some factors and for forecasting, so we also have a regARIMA modeling class available.
The courses target a broad audience: statisticians, economists, analysts, managers, decision/policy makers, or anyone else interested or involved in seasonal adjustment. The content of the courses ranges from basic, non-technical courses to more advanced or specialized courses on seasonal adjustment methods and theory.
We currently have one course available on-line. We are working on getting more courses available on the web site soon.
If you would like to see the format of the web courses, or if you would like to learn more about why we do seasonal adjustment, please look at our free sample course "Why Seasonal Adjustment?"
We have taught over 40 short courses at a variety of locations including the Banco de Mexico, the Instituto Nacional de Estadistica Geografia e Informatica (INEGI, Mexico), the American Forest and Paper Association, Ford Motor Company, the Bank of England, the Institute of Statistical Mathematics (Tokyo, Japan), Statistics Canada, U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and the Washington Statistical Society.
